What is Management? the flavors of Org.

Management comes in different flavors, from a management position to management style, but the goals are always the same, to provide support, to push toward success to take the place of fall, and to manage teams not only as a whole but for each agent.

80:20 Rule

The gist of the 80:20 rule deals mainly with weeding out the not priority and tells a manager to focus on the 20%.

80% of an item is caused by 20% and that 20% should be what you should focus on.

for example, 80%  percent of issues are caused by 20% people, have issues in your service desk you will find that they are typically caused by 20% of the people.

From Being Managed to Manager

Going from being managed to manager is a transition from taking care of yourself to caring for others, the first step is being able to manage yourself, being positive, etc.

Understanding the corporate culture.

The gist of this section is just you getting to know the company culture you are in, and to work with it and accept it.

Work-hard, play-hard culture (rapid feedback/reward and low-risk restaurants and software companies).

Tough-guy macho culture (rapid feedback/reward and high risk—police, surgical units, sports).

Process culture (slow feedback/reward and low risk —banks, insurance companies).

Bet-the-company culture (slow feedback/reward and high risk—aircraft manufacturers, Internet ventures).

along with this you need to get clear on what your job and role is in the company,  drafting mission statements help you bring this idea to the table and can help zero your focus in,

Finally management style, it doesn’t really matter what you do here, but generally, your goal is to take what the older generation did and make it better, there are many management styles that work and older styles that work also but keep in mind just like an old laptop if you don’t update it you can’t run the newest software.

Managing expectations.

The most important thing as a manager is knowing your teammates and the expectations they have and knowing you would need to go above and beyond for them. Typically workers are going to have expectations like the below.

examples;

Good Hours, Feelings of accomplishment, good benefits, appreciated,  treated fairly, they want someone to push them toward their work goals, etc.

Even if this means making compromises for an employee.
