EVLBOX Review: A Long-Term Customer’s Honest Take

I’ve been hosting on EVLBOX for about two years now — a couple of general-purpose VPSs, and a game server whenever I get the urge to play something for a week or a month. The reason I stay isn’t price. It’s that dealing with them feels less like dealing with a hosting company and more like dealing with a friend who happens to have servers.

Quick verdict

EVLBOX is the host I recommend to anyone who wants a game server or a VPS and would rather have a real person on Discord than a knowledge base and a prayer. Setup is fast, the hardware does what it says, and they’ll add things for you that other hosts won’t. It’s not for you if you want a fully managed platform where you never touch a panel — though they do offer that too. Use coupon code TOOBROKE20 for 20% off, or check EVLBOX plans and pricing.

Why I bought it

I don’t game as much as I used to, so a permanent game server doesn’t make sense. But every so often I want to play something for a week or a month, and EVLBOX is my default. The last big one was a Minecraft server loaded with mods. I got completely tangled up — mods conflicting, me not knowing which way was up — and I opened a ticket expecting to be told it was my problem. Instead they diagnosed the mod issues and got it running. That’s out of scope for any other game host I’ve used, and it’s why I stopped shopping around.

What it’s like to use

Setup is fast and I’ve never had a real problem with it. The one time something went sideways was my own fault — I was migrating my game server to a different game and wrecked the configuration. I opened a ticket on Discord and they had it fixed in about five to ten minutes.

On the VPS side, I run general-purpose instances and they’ve been exactly what I need — fast, not slow, good for the applications I put on them. The panels are panels; they have the features I need, and that’s all I ask. When I needed an OS image they didn’t have, I asked and they added it, typically within half an hour to an hour. And when I bricked a VPS entirely — having forgotten to take a backup first — they jumped in and recovered it anyway.

Two years in, I rarely have downtime. When I do, I’m taken care of — they’ll move me to another machine before anything bad happens, and any downtime is short. They seem like a well-organized group.

How it compares to OVH and Linode

I like OVH and Linode, mainly for price — but they’re only a couple of dollars cheaper, so it’s not a huge difference. The interfaces are about the same: same buttons, different places. What you can do is roughly the same too, except with EVLBOX you can do more, because if you need something added you just ask, and nine times out of ten they put it in for you. I’ve never gotten that from OVH or Linode.

Beyond game servers

EVLBOX isn’t just game hosting. They do fully managed web hosting — you can pick WordPress or another CMS, or even a custom application, and the plan includes a domain, a database, and five email inboxes. A friend of mine runs his site on their level one plan and has no complaints. They also offer Mumble server hosting and Discord bot hosting; a friend of mine hosted a custom Discord bot with them and they helped him get it running.

The Pterodactyl side is worth calling out. Their game servers run on Pterodactyl, which uses “eggs” to install each game. If they don’t have the egg you want, open a ticket and they’ll usually add it. I once brought them a custom Discord bot egg from the official Pterodactyl list — it took a little longer because they had to price it out as a custom egg, but I got it up and running.

Who should skip it

Skip EVLBOX if you want a fully managed platform where you never open a panel or a ticket — this is self-service hosting with excellent support behind it, not a done-for-you service. It’s also not the pick if you need enterprise SLAs or phone support. And if you’re brand new to servers, know that the docs exist; read them before opening a ticket.

FAQ

Is EVLBOX legit?

Yes. They’ve been operating for years, run their own panel and hardware fleet, and carry a 4.6/5 rating with a public Trustpilot presence. I’ve been a paying customer for about two years and have never had a billing or service problem. They also offer a 7-day refund policy if the service doesn’t work out.

How fast is EVLBOX support?

In my experience, very fast — especially on Discord. The one time I broke my own server config during a game migration, they fixed it in roughly five to ten minutes. Requests to add a custom OS image were handled in about 30 to 60 minutes. That responsiveness is the main reason I’ve stayed.

Can EVLBOX add a custom OS image or game egg?

Yes. If the image or Pterodactyl egg you want isn’t available, you can ask support and they’ll usually add it — OS images in about half an hour to an hour. I’ve done both, including a custom Discord bot egg that needed custom pricing.

Bottom line

EVLBOX has earned my business the hard way: by fixing my mistakes quickly and without drama. The VPSs are fast, the game servers set up in minutes, and the support is the best I’ve had from any host.
